What better way to imbibe the Christmas spirit than through a piece like this. Its message is simple yet profound — using the metaphors of climbing mountains and fording streams to point toward the pursuit of one’s dreams. There is, perhaps, also a quiet reference to an inner compass that guides that journey. The singing is a fine example of the contralto voice — deep, resonant, and full of emotional weight. The words and the voice come together to create something deeply moving. I came across this again while digitising some old LP records. Hearing it after many years was a revelation.
